YOUR FIRST VISIT?

We realise that stepping through the front door for worship is a BIG step, even if you've been into the church for concerts or festivals. But whether you've just moved to the area, have lived here all your life or are just visiting, we would love to see you!

What facilities are available at the church to enable access for all?

  • There is a temporary ramp to enable step-free access at the main door.  Once inside the area used for worship is all on one level. [Our current development plans include provision of permanent ramped access and accessible toilet at the back of church].

  • There is a loop system for those using a hearing aid.

  • The parish hall next door has toilets; one of which is a disabled toilet with changing facilities for babies which is accessible from the car park with a standard radar key. Please ask if you don't have a key with you and we can make sure it is unlocked!

  • There is limited street parking available around the church, so please be mindful of the parking zones especially if you visit midweek.

  • Large print copies of the service booklet, hymn books and weekly notice sheet are usually available.

Is there a 'dress code'? What should I wear?

There is no 'dress code' so please feel free to come as you are, and wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing. We are currently preparing to install a 'heating mat' to the main part of the seating area for use in the autumn and winter months, but its always worth having an extra layer if you find you're in a draughty spot!

What will happen when I arrive?

You will receive a friendly welcome inside the door by one of our Stewards, and given everything you need to take part in the service. We always aim to start the service on time - but don’t worry if you arrive later as one of the stewards is always looking out for those who arrive whenever they can...

What will happen during the service?

The current range of services can be found here and is designed to suit different people with different tastes! The Parish Mass follows a similar pattern each week and includes hymns, prayers, bible readings and a talk. At the point of Holy Communion you will be invited to go forward to receive the bread and wine, or a personal blessing should you wish. If you think you will find it difficult to come to the communion rail then please let the Stewards know and they will arrange for the clergy to bring communion to you in your seat.

What about children?

Children are welcome at all our services and there is something for them every week. There is also a selection of toys, books and activities available for them in The Prayground seating area to the right of the church as you come in. On the first Sunday of the month the children's focus is at 4pm with Families at Four, on the second, fourth and fifth Sundays of the month the children gather at the 10am Parish Mass for Sunday's at Ten and on the third Sunday of the month the 10am Parish Mass is an all-age service. There are more details of our activities for Children & Young People here.

What about money?

St Saviour's is completely reliant on donations from those who worship here week by week. Currently we don't 'pass the plate around' but there is a brass plate at the back as you leave where cash or card donations can be made if you wish. Alternatively you can donate online through the website here.

What happens after the service?

There are refreshments available at the back of church after the 10am service (and on festivals and celebrations there might also be some fizz!). We would love you to join us so we can get to know each other better, so please don't rush off!
