The community at St Saviour's, under the leadership of the Parochial Church Council, have a number of different projects 'on the go' in line with our Mission Action Plan. You can find a summary of each below - they are all at varied stages of completion, but it gives a flavour of what is going on 'behind the scenes' at the moment!

REWILDING

Those passing through the church grounds will have noticed

the wild flowers that have been sown on the grass bank along the edge of the churchyard and around the entrance to the Garden of Remembrance.

This has been done in partnership with

St Albans Wilderhood Watch

a group of local residents and members of the congregation “determined to help make our city more friendly for wildlife and people, one street at a time.”

SWIFT BOXES

The PCC are looking closely at our practical response to a variety of environmental concerns, and the most recent engagement has been with Wilderhood’s Swift Action project. The church building’s height and situation makes it ideal as a location for swift nesting boxes to encourage the existing colony (who currently feast on the insects thriving in the flower meadow!). The cost of purchasing and installing the boxes has been met by the Church Council - but if you'd like to make a donation towards the project then please go to the Donate page - and use the reference 'Swifts'

DEVELOPMENT

The PCC are considering various projects to make both the church and hall buildings 'fit for purpose' and as far as possible 'future-proofed' for the years ahead. Top of the list is an efficient and economic heating system, disability access, toilets and kitchen utilities in church....
